HTML for kids: learn to build websites
Every website your child visits is built with HTML. It is one of the easiest ways into coding — there is no maths and no setup, and the result is something you can see straight away. With a live playground, kids can write a tag and watch a real web page appear.
What is HTML?
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the language that describes web pages. It uses tags — words inside angle brackets like <h1> — to say “this is a heading”, “this is a paragraph”, “this is a picture”. The browser reads those tags and draws the page.
Why it is great for kids
HTML is forgiving, visual and instant. There is no complicated logic to grasp before something works, and every change shows up immediately — which is hugely motivating for young learners. It is also the natural first step before CSS (styling) and JavaScript (interactivity).
The first tags to learn
<h1>to<h6>— headings, largest to smallest.<p>— a paragraph of text.<b>and<i>— bold and italic.<a>— a link to another page.<img>— a picture.<ul>and<li>— a bulleted list.
Learning by building
The fastest way to learn HTML is to write it and see what happens. Start with a heading and a paragraph, then add a picture and a link — within minutes your child has made a real web page. From there, tables, colours and layout turn it into a whole site.

What age can a child learn HTML?
Confident readers around ages 7–8 and up can start, because HTML has no maths and gives instant visual results. Younger children can join in with an adult.
Do you need to install anything to learn HTML?
No. Kids Learning Hub has a live HTML playground in the browser — children type HTML and see the web page render straight away, with nothing to install.
Is HTML a good first step into coding?
Yes. It is forgiving and visual, and it leads naturally into CSS for styling and JavaScript for interactivity.
Is the Web Development course free?
Yes. The full course is free and puts most of its focus on HTML so children can build complete web pages and sites.
